Cozumel is one of the top destinations for diving in the world, with clear water (visibility over 100 ft), and warm water temperatures of 78F to 84F.  You´ll enjoy incredible coral formations, great walls, canyons, and shallow reefs full of colorful fish, turtles, eagle rays, moray eels, sharks, the endemic “Cozumel Splendid toad fish”, and many more, making this the dream dive vacation we want you to have.

You don´t have to be an expert to come to Mexico and dive. Cozumel has dive sites for all skill-levels, from beginners to experts.  For non-certified divers, this is a great place to start your diving career. Some of the reefs we visit are: Colombia, Palancar, Santa Rosa Wall and Punta Sur.

For the non-divers, the Island has many attractions and activities, including snorkeling, Mayan Ruins, dolphin encounters, museums, shopping, great food, nice beaches, a golf course, and more, making Cozumel one of the best vacation destinations for the whole family.

Scuba Diving

Due to the prevailing currents found in Cozumel, all boat dives are drift dives. Divemasters will lead every group of divers. The pace is generally very relaxed. When the currents are running stronger its easiest to go with the flow and let the current carry you over the reefs and through the passes. Naturally some dives are more advanced than others and your guide will help to evaluate your diving comfort level so they may suggest dive sites best suited to your skill level.

Dive sites are between a 5 minute and 45 minute boat ride from the resort.

Cozumels reefs are located in a National Marine Park.
The fee is not included in this package and is $8/day.

F.A.Q.

Airport Arrival:

Cozumel has an international airport, fully equipped for both large jets and private planes. International arrivals are expected to fill out a Customs Declaration & a Mexican Tourism Card before the plane lands. You must first clear the Immigration Area, where your passport or proof of citizenship is required.

Mexican Custom & Immigration:

After going through immigration, you proceed immediately to the Baggage/Customs area, which is just beyond the immigration. After you pick up your luggage and present your customs form to the officer, you will be asked to press a button on a machine resembling a stoplight. It flashes, at random, either a green (Go) or a red (Stop) light. Green means your luggage will not be inspected, red means it will be quickly checked. The whole process, from getting off the plane to getting out of customs takes about 15 minutes, rarely longer than 30 minutes, speedy by U.S. standards.

Airport Transportation:

Transfers are not included in your package. Before you exit the airport you need to buy a TAXI ticket approximately $11.00 US per person. Be sure your luggage has been loaded into the Suburban before getting in. Remember the taxi number and keep your taxi receipt. Make sure your luggage is unloaded at your arrival. The ride is only 10 minutes.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN AT THE hotel?

Check in at your resort will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while explore the property, eat, relax at the beach or get in a snorkel or SCUBA dive until your room is ready.

If you haven’t gotten certified yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!
You can do your classroom work before your trip and then do your checkout dives on vacation!

Can I go diving just a few times? Or do I have to dive every day?

The first rule of diving (well, one of the first rules) is to call a dive if you aren’t comfortable. This means that if you have signed up to go diving one day and you don’t feel comfortable, please don’t get in the water.
That said, this is a personal choice and not one that will result in a refund of money.

If you want to go diving, but don’t want to participate in the active dive schedule we have included, we can arrange a separate dive for you, as often as you’d like!

Can I dive more often than what is listed in the itinerary?

Yes!
You can enjoy shore diving available at this resort for $8/tank.

Shore diving

For those divers who can't get enough of Cozumel's undersea life, shore diving is always available just a few steps from your room.

The jagged ironshore limestone wall gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopi, and even an occasional seahorse — great for macro photography.

Depth is about 15'-25' and access is easy from either of the piers using the specially built stairs, complete with handrails.

A very easy exit is found through a tunnel, that leads to a waist deep saltwater pool and a short staircase up to the deck. Night dives here are fantastic, offering unique and memorable creature encounters.

What are the water temps in Cozumel in February?

The water temperature in Cozumel in february is pleasant. The sea temperature is 79°F on average (min/max: 77°F/81°F).

A 3mm “shorty” wetsuit is recommended except for rainy days and multiple diving a 3mm "full wetsuit" would be better.

(the local dive shop will have wetsuits available; however, if you prefer to try them on in advance, Aquatic Adventures can assist you with a rental or purchase of a new wetsuit!)

ATM:

You can get small amounts of pesos (approx. $100 US) with your VISA and MasterCard credit cards. Be sure you remember your PIN number. You can also get pesos through the local Amex office with your Amex credit card.

Money Exchange:

The local currency is pesos. The exchange rate of the peso changes daily. Banks change money from 10 am to 1 pm Monday - Friday and are closed on the weekends. Exchange houses are open most of the day and the hotel front desk can change small amounts of dollars to pesos. You can use your credit cards at most businesses. MasterCard and Visa are the most widely accepted. You will need an I.D. to use your credit cards, either Drivers License or passport. We suggest you bring plenty of $1, $5 & $10 bills to use for taxis and tipping.

Water Conservation:

We would appreciate your help in conserving the fresh water supply at the hotel. Being an island, we have to rely on underground wells and rain. City water at times becomes so scarce that water has to be trucked in. You can help us by not letting the water run in the rooms needlessly, reporting any leaks or faulty plumbing, and using the rinse tanks for your scuba equipment. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Getting Around:

Taxis are plentiful and very cheap. If you need a taxi, it is faster to flag one down as they pass by. Always ask how much the fare will be before getting into the taxi. All taxi drivers must carry with them a rate sheet listing the approved fares. Taxi drivers are notorious for never having any change. Try to have small bills handy. The usual fare between Scuba Club Cozumel and town is about $5 US. (It is only a fifteen-minute walk).

Stamps:

Only Mexican stamps can be used for mail from Cozumel. Bring your post cards and letters ready to go, pay for the stamp and the Front Desk will mail them. Be sure all your letters have enough space left to place the stamp (Mexican stamps are twice as big) and be sure all of them have an address, zip code and country. Mexican mail is not very fast, except post cards, and can take at least 4 weeks to be delivered.

Drinking Water & Ice:

The water in your room is potable but not suitable to drink. Drink only bottled water. The water served in the restaurant is bottled water and the ice is purified. The pitcher in your room can be filled with bottled water available in the corridors and the ice bucket can be filled in the restaurant. Bottled water is sold at any store in town.

Laundry:

There are several places in town to get your laundry done. Please ask the Front Desk to call one of them to pick up your clothes. Sometimes they will take one or two days to get the job done. This service must be paid in cash.

Can I pay by Zelle?

No. The dive shop does not accept Zelle. You can make your payment by credit card which includes a 3% processing fee.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 3% processing fee, you may pay by check. You can drop this off at the front desk of the dive shop or by mailing this directly to the dive shop.
