Florida Keys

Scuba diving in the Florida Keys is an extraordinary adventure that immerses divers in a vibrant underwater world. Known for its crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life, the Keys offer a range of diving sites from shallow coral reefs teeming with colorful fish to deeper shipwrecks that attract more experienced divers. The warm waters and excellent visibility make it an ideal location for both beginners and seasoned divers looking to explore the beauty and mystery of the ocean.

This is an exclusive trip aboard the Juliet and is available only by special request, making it a unique adventure that few have had the opportunity to experience. Where else can you dive the Florida Keys from Key Largo to Key West without ever having to move your dive gear other than to move yourself into the water that is.

Departing from Miami and including quintessential Keys dives like the Speigel Grove, Vandenburg, Molasses Reef, Eagle, Thunderbolt, Looe Key, and more.

F.A.Q.

Special notes about cabins

Please note that Cabin 4 and the Aft Ensuite only have 1 queen size bed.
This is reserved for couples or friends who are comfortable sharing a bed.

What if I need a roommate?

If you would like to have a roommate but don't not have one identified yet, then we will initially only charge the double occupancy rate. Aquatic Adventures Ohio will work to find you a roommate; however, if a roommate cannot be found then you are responsible for paying the single occupancy rate.

Please note that Cabin 4 and the Aft Ensuite are only suitable for couples or friends that are comfortable sharing the same bed.
If you prefer to be in one of these cabins, and you don’t have a roommate, you will need to use a single occupancy rate as we cannot assign you a roommate for these cabins.

Diving

Scuba diving in the Florida Keys is a captivating journey into an underwater paradise unlike any other. Stretching from Key Largo to Key West, the region offers a plethora of dive sites perfect for every skill level.

Divers can explore the living coral barrier reef, the only one in the continental United States, stunning shipwrecks like the USS Spiegel Grove, and marine parks teeming with aquatic life. The clear, warm waters provide excellent visibility, making it easy to spot vibrant coral formations, schools of colorful fish, and other marine species. Whether you're a novice looking to take your first dive or an experienced diver seeking new adventures, the Florida Keys are a scuba diving haven.

are meals INCLUDED?

Yes!

All meals and beverages on board are included.

are GRATUITIES included?

No, these are not included yet. Across the liveaboard industry in the US and Caribbean, tips are not included in the price of the trip. A suggested gratuity of 10-15% is greatly appreciated.

Do I have to be certified to go SCUBA diving?

Yes, an Open Water Certification is required to go SCUBA diving.

If you haven’t gotten certified yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!
You can do your classroom work before your trip and then do your checkout dives on vacation!

Can I go diving just a few times? Or do I have to dive every day?

The first rule of diving (well, one of the first rules) is to call a dive if you aren’t comfortable. This means that if you have signed up to go diving one day and you don’t feel comfortable, please don’t get in the water.
That said, this is a personal choice and not one that will result in a refund of money.

is the use of reef-safe sunscreen required?

It is not required, but it is strongly recommend to use of reef-friendly sunscreens to help keep the ocean’s corals healthy. Research estimates that 4-6,000 metric tons of sunscreen wash off swimmers into the ocean annually, and most of these sunscreens contain ingredients that cause harmful algae blooms and coral bleaching. Please check your sunscreens and avoid those that contain benzophenon/oxybenzone. To do your part, use biodegradablenatural sunscreens to help protect the reefs.

Look for sunscreens that have active ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

What are the water temps in the Keys in august?

The water temperatures in the Florida Keys in August are typically warm and inviting, making it an ideal time for water activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and swimming. During this month, water temperatures usually range from 85°F to 88°F (29°C to 31°C). The consistently warm waters contribute to excellent diving conditions, as they enhance visibility and the overall comfort of divers. This makes August a popular time for both locals and tourists to explore the vibrant marine ecosystems and the stunning underwater landscapes the Florida Keys have to offer.

A 3mm “shorty” wetsuit is recommended except for rainy days and multiple diving a 3mm "full wetsuit" would be better.

(Let us know in advance, Aquatic Adventures can assist you with a rental or purchase of a new wetsuit!)

What dive gear is included?

  • Tanks

  • Weights

  • Weight belts

  • Fishing and spearfishing equipment

  • Nitrox

Is Nitrox available?

Yes!

On this trip a Nitrox certification is required, as they only have Nitrox on board of the Juliet LOB.

can i dive with gloves/knives?

Yes, but remember gloves are for the mooring line only, not to protect your hands to touch the coral. Juliet LOB adheres to a strict no touch/no take policy on all of their trips and destinations, with the exception of garbage, and lionfish. Take only pictures, leave only bubbles, kill only time and lionfish.

Are sheets / towels / soaps provided?

Yes, Juliet LOB provides all linens, shower and deck towels, and there are shampoos, and soaps in all of the shower areas. If you like something specific feel free to bring it with you.

Is there internet access or cell phone reception on board?

There is no internet or wifi on board while you are out on charter. Juliet LOB has a dedicated satellite email system but no ability to browse the internet or check personal email accounts. When within site of land in the Bahamas, VIs, and Puerto Rico your US phone will most likely work, but please check with your provider for fee schedules and roaming charged that might be incurred.

In case of an emergency: On the boat, in addition to a VHF radio, Juliet LOB has a satellite phone and e-mail. Passengers can use these for ship to shore communication. There is a fee for non-emergency use. Your family and friends at home should contact Juliet Sailing and Diving at 1-866-5JULIET (558-5438) and they will contact the boat.

How does someone get in touch with me on board in case of an emergency?

If you would like to leave contact information with your loved ones should they need to reach you in an emergency they can contact the office at 1-866-558-5438 to get a message to the boat. There is also satellite email on board that can accept text-only messages of 500 characters or less at juliet@mazu.email

Are there outlets in my cabin?

Yes, there are normal household 110v outlets throughout the boat, in all cabins and the main salon for you to use. And yes, there are some near the beds if you need to use a CPAP at night. If you need an extension cord just ask the crew when you board.

Can I fish onboard?

Yes, we strongly encourage lionfish hunting as they are invasive – and very tasty. Other fishing is allowed but we’d honestly rather you hunt the lionfish instead. Better to take the fish that aren’t supposed to be there and give the endemic fish a break!

Why should I bring my passport to go to the Keys?

Sailing in the Keys during this time of year is very unpredictable and dependent on weather conditions.
If necessary, the Juliet may divert and go into Bahamian waters.

For this reason, it’s best to have your valid passport on-hand so that if you need to dock in The Bahamas, you are prepared to disembark safely and legally.

Can I pay by Zelle?

No. The dive shop does not accept Zelle. You can make your payment by credit card which includes a 3% processing fee.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 3% processing fee, you may pay by check. You can drop this off at the front desk of the dive shop or by mailing this directly to the dive shop.
