August 20:
Self-Guided Rome

Today is a self guided day in Rome. The following sites are within walking distance of your hotel.

Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is the most famous fountain in Rome (and some might even say in the whole world). The fountain is the biggest fountain in the city and origins go back all the way to 19 BC.

The myth of the throwing the coins in the fountain, originating in 1954 with the movie "Three Coins in the Fountain," goes like this:

If you throw one coin: you will return to Rome.
If you throw two coins: you will fall in love with an attractive Italian.
If you throw three coins: you will marry the person that you met.

In order to achieve the desired effect, you should throw the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder.

Spanish Steps
The Spanish Steps (Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti in Italian) were built at the beginning of the eighteenth century connecting Piazza di Spagna and the Church of Trinità dei Monti. It is one of the most famous parts of Rome.

August 21:
Colosseum Tour

Today you’ll get to explore the Colosseum.

Confirmation numbers:
i23813086 / 23813665

Meeting Point
Via delle Terme di Tito, 72, directly across the street from Oppio Caffè at the gated entrance to Colle Oppio Park. Your guide will be holding a green Walks sign.

Please meet 15 minutes prior to the tour start time.

3:00pm - 6:00pm

In a small group venture into the heart of an empire at the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

As you explore this huge structure, you'll learn all about the reasons why it was built and what went on inside. From bloodcurdling mass executions to wild and extravagant animal hunts and even an intentional flooding to stage a naval battle, the history of this place really is stranger than fiction.

Of course, you'll also get to hear everything about the gladiator games, the most famous form of entertainment hosted in the Colosseum. You'll break through myths about who exactly lost their lives here and what gesture was used to order their deaths.

After an hour exploring the ancient world’s most famous arena on your Colosseum tour, your guide will take you to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill to learn what everyday life was like in Ancient Rome. As you traverse the heart of the ancient city, stones will come to life with stories of political intrigue, crazy emperors, pagan religious practices, and more than a few murder plots! See the site of Julius Caesar’s funeral pyre, the ruins of temples, the main centers for business and politics in Ancient Rome, and so much more.

Finally, you’ll go even further back in time at Palatine Hill, where—legend says—Rome itself was born. This is where the she-wolf in the famous myth found Remus and Romulus, where the brothers fought for the right to build a city, and where Rome first grew and prospered.

August 22:
Pristine Sistine Tour

Today you’ll get to explore the Sistine Chapel.

Confirmation numbers:
i23813086 / 23813609

Meeting Point
Please meet your guide in the plaza outside of Antico Café Candia, Via Candia, 153, 00192 Roma RM, at the bottom of the stairs. The closest Metro station is Cipro. Your guide will be in the center of the plaza holding a green Walks sign.

Please meet 15 minutes prior to the tour start time.

7.15am - 11.15am

Step inside the Vatican an hour before it opens to the public and experience the Sistine Chapel at its most peaceful time of day.
Relish in human ingenuity under Michelangelo’s ceiling and frescoes without the distraction of swelling public crowds and embark on a full tour of both the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica—all while using a restricted access door to gain instant access without waiting in line.

During the day the museum corridors are as busy as the Sistine Chapel. At this hour in the morning, while the Museums are still closed to the public, you'll have plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful galleries. You'll pause at all the highlights including the Belvedere Courtyard where classical Greek and Roman works of art await, and the Stanze di Raffaello—the Raphael Rooms—which expert guides and visitors alike debate which are more beautiful than the Sistine Chapel. Your guide will give you the full tour other companies rarely deliver, pointing out where Raphael worked the faces of his gurus Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, into his frescoes.

Now that your eye has adjusted to world-famous masterpieces, you'll move onto the Sistine Chapel. You'll arrive at the door as the first regular groups are admitted, to visit at the most peaceful time of day. By now your guide will have given you a full run-down of Michelangelo's frescoes, including a detailed handout, so you spend every minute inside the Sistine Chapel in awestruck contemplation.

Finally, you'll take a special-access passage via the Sistine Chapel to skip the entrance lines at St. Peter's Basilica* and walk right into Christendom's most awe-inspiring basilica. Here your expert guide will treat you to a full tour that includes Michelangelo's emotional Pietà, Bernini's enormous baldachin altarpiece. It is here within the basilica, a vast array of stories, tales, and anecdotes - each more unbelievable than the next - are presented by one of the best guides in Rome.

We recommend visiting the museums today!

Paris is a city of museums. Renowned for her cultural contributions to the world, the city hosts hundreds of them (about 130 at last count!), from the world-class artifacts of the Louvre to the priceless artworks of the Musée d’Orsay.

Louvre
Formerly a royal palace, the Louvre embraces eight centuries of French history. Intended as a universal museum since its creation in 1793, its collections – among the finest in the world – span several thousands of years and a territory that extends from America to the confines of Asia. The Louvre is a universal museum with eight curatorial departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Paintings; Sculptures; Decorative Arts; Prints and Drawings; and Islamic Art. Some 35,000 works of art are on display, including world-famous masterpieces such as the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the Seated Scribe, the Winged Bulls of Khorsabad, the Mona Lisa and Michelangelo’s Slaves, and parts of the palace, such as the Napoleon III Apartments, are works of art in their own right.

Note: A ticket is required to enter the Louvre. This should be purchased well in advance as these tickets sell out quickly and months in advance. This has not been included in the package.

For 130 years, the Eiffel Tower has been a powerful and distinctive symbol of the city of Paris, and by extension, of France. At first, when it was built for the 1889 World's Fair, it impressed the entire world by its stature and daring design, and symbolized French know-how and industrial genius

Note: A ticket is required to enter the Eiffel Tower. This should be purchased well in advance as these tickets sell out quickly and months in advance. This has not been included in the package.

Visit the Champs-Élysées

The Champs-Élysées connects the Arc de Triomphe with the Place de la Concorde and is considered to be one of the world's most famous commercial streets. Here you can find all the big French brands and is great for shopping (or window shopping).

Explore the cafe’s

The café culture in Paris began in the late nineteenth century. Artists, intellects, philosophers, writers, and political figures convened at Paris coffeeshops to discuss pretty much anything and everything.

Most of the famous cafes in Paris have extraordinary histories. They boast the birth place of books, philosophies, art movements, and even war treaties. And, of course, the most famous Paris cafes have a red-carpet list of emblematic clientele. It’s hard to imagine that the people watching in those days was even better than it is today!

August 30:
Self-Guided London

Today is a self guided day in London.
We recommend visiting Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London eye today as they are all close in distance to each other.

Buckingham palace

Make sure you start your day here so you can watch the Changing the Guard Ceremony at 11am (weather permitting). During your visit this ceremony takes place on Wednesday and Friday

Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace encompasses colourful spectacle and British pageantry. During the Changing the Guard ceremony, also known as ‘Guard Mounting’, one detachment of troops takes over from another with musical background.

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Although in use for the many official events and receptions, the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every summer.

Big Ben

Big Ben is the largest of the six bells in Westminster Palace. Many people think that it’s a name of the clock tower in London, but in fact, the name refers to the 13-ton bell, which is inside of the tower behind the clock dial.

The official name of Big Ben was the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster. In 2012, by the decision of the British Parliament, this attraction of England was renamed to Elizabeth Tower (in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s reign).

Westminster Abbey

In addition to serving as a site for royal coronations and burials, Westminster Abbey has famously been the location for 17 royal weddings—including the marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.

Note: A ticket is required to go inside Westminster Abbey. This has not been included in the package.

London Eye

The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3 million visitors annually.

It is a must visit when you are in London.

Note: A ticket is required to ride the London Eye. This has not been included in the package.

August 31:
Self-Guided London

Today is a self guided day in London. We recommend visiting the British Museum and the Globe Theater today as they are close in distance to each other.

F.A.Q.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE HOTEL?

Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while you go out and eat or explore the city until your room is ready.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED?

Breakfast is only included in Paris.
For an additional cost, breakfast can be added in Rome and London.
There are plenty of restaurants inside and within walking distance of the hotels though!

WHAT ELECTRIC ADAPTER SHOULD I BRING?

You will need to consider what to pack, to ensure you can use your personal electrical appliances safely while you are abroad. This normally includes the use of a travel adapter, which is a device that simply allows you to plug any US electrical appliance into a foreign electrical socket. It is important to note that it does not convert the voltage or frequency.

Plug adapters are the interfaces between the American flat-pronged plug and European two round-prong socket. These allow you to plug your electrical device into the wall socket, but they do not convert the electricity to the American 110 volts. If your appliance is designed to run only on 110-120 volts, you are likely to see smoke, if not fire, from this potent miss-mating. You will need a step-down voltage converter to safely step the voltage down from 230 to 110.

BUY A POWER PLUG/TRAVEL ADAPTER

Amazon has an great selection of adapters. We don’t sell directly, just want to make sure you have the right one for your travels!

Is it customary to tip in Europe?

Restaurant tips are more modest in Europe than in America. At restaurants, check the menu to see if service is included; if it isn't, a tip of 5–10 percent is normal. In most places, 10 percent is a big tip.
Restaurant staff gets paid a higher hourly wage and therefore high amounts of tipping is not expected. That being said, a 5-10% tip is always good.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch
