October 3:
Castle of Edinburgh

Today is a self guided day in Edinburgh. We recommend visiting the Castle today. The castle opens daily at 9.30am and is reachable by bus, tram, train and taxi.

Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. With a long rich history as a royal residence, military garrison, prison and fortress, it is alive with many exciting tales. When you climb Castle Hill, you will walk in the footsteps of soldiers, kings and queens – and even the odd pirate or two.

Though parts of it remain in military use, the castle is now a world-famous visitor attraction. It’s also an iconic part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site.

You can indulge to an afternoon tea experience in the castle, which also includes admission to the castle.

Note: A ticket is required to enter the Castle. This should be purchased well in advance as these tickets sell out quickly. This has not been included in the package.

You will need to activate your downloaded ticket before travelling, however this should only be done on the day of travel and once you are sure you will be travelling that day. Activating your ticket is irreversible, once it’s been activated it cannot be changed, refunded or moved so we recommend you only activate it just before boarding. Tickets should not be activated before 04.30 am on the day of travel, unless your train leaves before then.

Activating your ticket is very straight forward all you need to do is open your ticket in you app and you will see a button thats says activate. All you need to do is click that button.

October 5:
Self-Guided Glasgow

Today is a self guided day in Glasgow.
We have a couple of recommendations below.

Stroll along Bustling Buchanan Street
Start your Glasgow sightseeing tour with a stroll along one of the city’s most famous and historic thoroughfares.
Buchanan Street dates back to the late 18th century, and it’s home to a beautiful array of Victorian-era architecture in addition to Glasgow’s most upmarket shops. While you can walk the entire length of the street in just 10 to 15 minutes if you’re in a hurry, there’s a whole lot waiting for you in the surrounding squares and arcades if you’ve got the time.

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of the best Glasgow attractions – and best of all, it’s completely free to visit!

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was built to awe at the end of the 19th century. The grand, almost-palatial architecture was inspired by the Spanish Baroque style that was popular at the time, but it was firmly grounded using local Glaswegian materials and techniques.

Glasgow’s Victorian Necropolis
This vast Necropolis was the city’s main burial ground from the 17th century onwards, and it’s estimated that some 50,000 Glaswegians are buried over the 37 acres of grounds.
It might sound like an eerie place to visit, but each of the headstones and graves has a unique story to tell.

F.A.Q.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE ACCOMMODATIONS?

Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while you go out and eat or explore the city until your room is ready.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED?

Yes! Breakfast is included at all your locations.

WHAT ELECTRIC ADAPTER SHOULD I BRING?

You will need to consider what to pack, to ensure you can use your personal electrical appliances safely while you are abroad. This normally includes the use of a travel adapter, which is a device that simply allows you to plug any US electrical appliance into a foreign electrical socket. It is important to note that it does not convert the voltage or frequency.

Plug adapters are the interfaces between the American flat-pronged plug and European two round-prong socket. These allow you to plug your electrical device into the wall socket, but they do not convert the electricity to the American 110 volts. If your appliance is designed to run only on 110-120 volts, you are likely to see smoke, if not fire, from this potent miss-mating. You will need a step-down voltage converter to safely step the voltage down from 230 to 110.

BUY A POWER PLUG/TRAVEL ADAPTER

Amazon has an great selection of adapters. We don’t sell directly, just want to make sure you have the right one for your travels!

Is it customary to tip in Scotland?

In Scotland, tipping is not as expected as it is in the United States. However, it is still considered a nice gesture to tip for good service. It is not necessarily rude not to tip, but if you receive exceptional service then leaving a tip would be appreciated.
There are no hard and fast rules for tipping amount. If you are happy with the service, a 10-15% tip is customary, particularly in a restaurant or café with table service. A tip is not necessary if a service charge has been added to the bill by the establishment.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch
