Self-guided London

Today is a self guided day in London.
We recommend visiting Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London eye today as they are all close in distance to each other.

Buckingham palace

Make sure you start your day here so you can watch the Changing the Guard Ceremony at 11am (weather permitting). During your visit this ceremony takes place on Wednesday and Friday

Changing the Guard at Buckingham Palace encompasses colourful spectacle and British pageantry. During the Changing the Guard ceremony, also known as ‘Guard Mounting’, one detachment of troops takes over from another with musical background.

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch. Although in use for the many official events and receptions, the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every summer.

Big Ben

Big Ben is the largest of the six bells in Westminster Palace. Many people think that it’s a name of the clock tower in London, but in fact, the name refers to the 13-ton bell, which is inside of the tower behind the clock dial.

The official name of Big Ben was the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster. In 2012, by the decision of the British Parliament, this attraction of England was renamed to Elizabeth Tower (in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s reign).

Westminster Abbey

In addition to serving as a site for royal coronations and burials, Westminster Abbey has famously been the location for 17 royal weddings—including the marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.

Note: A ticket is required to go inside Westminster Abbey. This has not been included in the package.

London Eye

The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3 million visitors annually.

It is a must visit when you are in London.

Note: A ticket is required to ride the London Eye. This has not been included in the package.

Stonehenge

Note: Make sure to bring the printed version of the tickets.

Your first stop of the day is a visit to Windsor Castle.

Afterward, continue by coach bus to Stonehenge. Admire England’s countryside as you travel to Salisbury Plain, the home of this UNESCO-listed stone circle, whose origins stretch back 4,500 years. Marvel at the prehistoric edifice, now generally thought to have been a temple aligned to the movements of the sun. Gaze at the stones, ponder how they were transported here and explore the cutting-edge visitor center to see the archaeological and virtual displays.

Next, continue to the picture-postcard village of Lacock, one of England’s prettiest spots. The 13th-century village has starred in period TV drama adaptations such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, as well as movies such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Head inside The George Inn, a welcoming, 14th-century pub, and savor a delicious, traditional English lunch. On rare occasions, when the inn is shut, you will visit a similar, nearby pub for your meal.

Duly refreshed, venture onward to the handsome Georgian city of Bath, once home to Jane Austen, the beloved,18th-century novelist. Enjoy a panoramic coach tour of the honey-stoned architecture, admiring top Bath attractions such as the sublime Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge on route.

Self guided - Paris

Today is a self guided day in Paris.

Visit the Eiffel Tower

For 130 years, the Eiffel Tower has been a powerful and distinctive symbol of the city of Paris, and by extension, of France. At first, when it was built for the 1889 World's Fair, it impressed the entire world by its stature and daring design, and symbolized French know-how and industrial genius

Note: A ticket is required to enter the Eiffel Tower. This should be purchased well in advance as these tickets sell out quickly and months in advance. This has not been included in the package.

Tour the vibrant Belleville neighborhood

A stroll along the streets of Belleville, a district with a history of rebellion and multicultural flair, is certain to fire the imagination. Belleville’s bustling Chinatown and artist residents make it a lively place to explore. Wander up rue de Belleville to see where tragic chanteuse (female singer) Edith Piaf is said to have been born under a street lamp, then turn right onto pedestrian rue Dénoyez where you'll find Paris’ most dazzling street art.

End your Belleville encounter with a meander through leafy Parc de Belleville, offering first-class views over the city.

Self-Arranged:

TBA    So many options – near the hotel –

Musee Rodin – Paris (included in our Paris Museum Pass)

Musee de l’Armee and Tombeau de Napoleon (included)

TBA     Maybe a stroll down the Champs Elysees and a trip to the top of the Arch de Triomphe (included).

We want an early night, though….

June 27:
Mont Saint Michel

After an early breakfast transfer to the front of the main entrance to the Architecture Museum at Palais de Chaillot for your tour pick up at 7am.

Note: Check in for this tour is at 6.45 am.

Note: Make sure to bring the printed version of the tickets.

Note: Make sure to bring a face mask to this tour.

Board your private bus and settle into your seat, relax while taking in the beauty of the French countryside. Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island and mainland commune in Normandy, France. The island lies approximately one kilometre off the country's north-western coast. Upon arrival on the island, your expert guide will make sure you experience the most fascinating attractions, the most famous of them all, the hilltop Abbey of Mont Saint-Michel. Then take some time to yourself and enjoy it at your own pace.

You will also be provided with tickets to Mont Saint-Michel’s Abbey which allows you to soak up the beauty of the abbey’s interior with an audio guide tour. Learn about how Mont Saint-Michel began humbly enough in the eighth century, when – citing orders from Archangel Michael himself – a bishop built a church on this small and secluded rock island.

Enjoy a variety of lunch options ranging from wooden rafter-adorned dining rooms serving rustic meat-focused fare to sophisticated restaurants with bay-view terraces where seafood from the surrounding waters takes centre stage. For a more casual and characteristically Breton feed, stop by one of Mont Saint-Michel’s crêperies and feast on galettes (buckwheat pancakes) paired with Normandy cider.

After taking in the breath-taking sights that Mont Saint-Michel offers and indulging in fine cuisine your air-conditioned coach will return you to Paris.

We need to check in for our tour to Mont St. Michel by 6:45 AM.  Current guidelines state that masks are required on this tour. (Note that knees and shoulders must be covered in order to enter the Abbey.)

We will probably need to leave the hotel at least forty minutes earlier – the metro will take 20 minutes with ideal connections (we won’t get ideal conditions) – otherwise it is a 35-minute walk.

We are due to return to Paris at 9:00 PM.

June 28:
Self-guided Paris

Today is a self guided day in Paris.

Visit the Champs-Élysées

The Champs-Élysées connects the Arc de Triomphe with the Place de la Concorde and is considered to be one of the world's most famous commercial streets. Here you can find all the big French brands and is great for shopping (or window shopping).

Explore the cafe’s

The café culture in Paris began in the late nineteenth century. Artists, intellects, philosophers, writers, and political figures convened at Paris coffeeshops to discuss pretty much anything and everything.

Most of the famous cafes in Paris have extraordinary histories. They boast the birth place of books, philosophies, art movements, and even war treaties. And, of course, the most famous Paris cafes have a red-carpet list of emblematic clientele. It’s hard to imagine that the people watching in those days was even better than it is today!

Self-Arranged:

10:00    Versailles.
Our tour leaves at 10:00 AM.  (We need to arrive at least 15 minutes early.)
We can return to Paris at our leisure.

Then the rest of the day is ours.

The Musee D’Orsay is amazing – for architecture as well as art.

Or we can try one of the other museums or sights included in our pass.

Or we can just wander around and enjoy Paris.  (Or go back to the hotel and sleep!)

June 29:
Departure

Today is time to say goodbye (for now).

After breakfast you will check out of your hotel. You will transfer by taxi to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) for your flight home.

You will be picked up at your hotel at 10.15 am for your private transfer to the airport.

Safe Travels!

What transport is included in this trip?

The Eurostar from London to Paris in Standard Premier class is included in this package.
With standard premier class, a light meal and drinks are served at your seat and you will have extra spacious seats and legroom.

Flight recommendations

We recommend flying into Heathrow Airport (LHR) and flying out of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). This will save you a transfer from Paris to London.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE IN London?

We do suggest arriving in London around 1 or 2pm.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE HOTEL?

Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while you go out and eat or explore the city until your room is ready.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR MY MASK THE WHOLE TIME?

At this time, No.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED?

Yes!

The serving times vary by hotel (they will tell you at check-in), but usually breakfast is served starting at 6:30am.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

You can make checks payable to “Zone Travel”

Please mail your checks (allowing 3-5 business days for delivery - PRIOR to deadline) to:
Zone Travel
PO Box 12052
Columbus, OH 43212

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.
