Take a dip among authentic Roman ruins...
The History of Bagni Tiberio
The history of Bagni Tiberio goes back over two millennia when the Emperor Tiberius built his Palazzo a Mare along this cove, just one of twelve imperial villas scattered across the island of Capri. In the 19th century, European gentry and artists on the Grand Tour would also stop here to paint the picturesque Roman ruins.
At the beginning of the 1900s, Giuseppe e Lucia De Martino established a small beachfront restaurant with a small coal oven here, officially founding their business in 1926. Over the following decade, they began to transport guests to the beach from Marina Grande on board a Gozzo rowboat, opening a beach club after WWII with the arrival of tourists from Germany and the US. Today, Bagni Tiberio is run by the same family, famous on the island for their friendly hospitality!
One of the most notable attractions near Bagni Tiberio is the famous Villa Jovis, which was the primary residence of the Roman Emperor Tiberius. It is situated on the eastern side of the island and offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples. Although the walk from Bagni Tiberio to Villa Jovis may take around 30 minutes to an hour depending on your pace, it is a scenic route that allows you to enjoy the natural beauty of Capri.
Additionally, Capri town, also known as Capri Centro, is easily accessible by foot from Bagni Tiberio. Capri town is a bustling area filled with charming streets, high-end shops, restaurants, and cafes. It takes approximately 20-30 minutes to walk from Bagni Tiberio to Capri town, and along the way, you can take in the picturesque views of the island.
Furthermore, the Gardens of Augustus, or Giardini di Augusto, are within walking distance from Bagni Tiberio. These gardens offer stunning panoramic views of the famous Faraglioni rock formations and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a peaceful and picturesque spot to explore and relax, and it is reachable in around 15-20 minutes by foot from Bagni Tiberio.

If you're an American traveling to Italy or planning to stay there for an extended period, it's important to be aware of the following information about using electricity in Italy:
Voltage and Frequency:
Italy operates on a different electrical system compared to the United States. The voltage in Italy is 230 volts, whereas in the U.S., it is 120 volts. Additionally, the frequency in Italy is 50 hertz (Hz), whereas in the U.S., it is 60 Hz. This difference in voltage and frequency means that American electrical devices may not be compatible with the Italian electrical system without the use of adapters or converters.
Plug Types:
Italy uses Type C or Type F electrical plugs and outlets. These plugs have two or three round pins, so if your American devices have flat pins, you will need plug adapters to fit them into Italian outlets. It's advisable to carry multiple adapters to accommodate your various devices.
Power Adapters and Converters:
Most modern electronic devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets, are dual voltage and can support both 120V and 230V. In such cases, you will only need a plug adapter to fit your American plugs into Italian outlets. However, certain devices, like hairdryers, curling irons, and some kitchen appliances, might only support the U.S. voltage. For these devices, you will need a voltage converter or a transformer to safely use them in Italy.
Safety Considerations:
It's crucial to ensure that your electrical devices can handle the higher voltage in Italy before plugging them in directly. Using devices not compatible with the higher voltage can result in damage or even fire hazards. Always check the voltage requirements and capabilities of your devices by looking at the labels or the user manuals. If in doubt, it's safer to use a voltage converter or seek expert advice.
Charging Electronic Devices:
When charging your electronic devices in Italy, you can usually use a simple plug adapter. Most smartphones, tablets, and laptops have built-in power adapters that can handle different voltages automatically. However, it's always a good idea to check the device's label or documentation to confirm its voltage compatibility.
Hairdryers and Personal Care Appliances:
If you plan to use American hairdryers, curling irons, or other personal care appliances in Italy, be cautious. These devices often require a higher wattage than what Italian outlets provide. Using them with a voltage converter is an option, but it's worth noting that converters can be large and heavy. Alternatively, you can consider purchasing hairdryers or styling tools with dual voltage settings or ones specifically designed for international use.
Remember, electrical standards can vary between countries, so it's essential to research the specific requirements and prepare accordingly to ensure a safe and hassle-free experience while using electricity in Italy.
Should you bring Euros?
Yes!
If you give your bank a few days heads up, they can usually source some euros for you. No worries though, if you don't do this in advance. You can usually exchange USD for euros at your hotel or close to your hotel.
DO NOT EXCHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT.
You'll get the worst exchange rates and sometimes they charge fees as well.
Can I pay by check?
Yes!
If you would like to avoid the 4% processing fee, you may pay by check. You can drop this off at a Chase bank near you, or mail this overnight to us (with tracking information).
