Anthony’s Key

-Breakfast daily
More than five decades ago, a vision emerged of a small intimate hideaway. They wanted to create a resort that gives guests an authentic island experience and embraces the beauty of the Caribbean as nature intended. While their popularity may have grown over the past 50 years, they still pride themselves on maintaining a peaceful slice of paradise.
Anthony’s Key is a small cay located off the coast of Roatan. Guests can choose between staying in one of the quiet hillside bungalows or enjoying sweeping ocean views in one of the gorgeous bungalows on the key.
Don’t be surprised if you find that your favorite afternoon pastime during your stay is lazing in one of the hammocks, enjoying the sights and sounds of the water. However, if you’re in the mood for some adventure, you’ll find a variety of water-sports equipment on the key’s small beach. Enjoy an afternoon dip in the swimming pool, or unwind with a luxurious massage at Ixora Spa.
Back on the main island, you’ll find one of their most Instagram-worthy spots. With sweeping views, fiery sunsets, and tucked away in the palm-studded hillside, you’ll enjoy spending time in our Ankor Seafood Grill or Frangipani Bar. Sip a refreshing cocktail and satisfy your appetite with delicious island fare.
You’ll find the Scuba School, Seaside Gifts & Photos, Photo Roatan, AKR’s Snack Shop, Dive Shop, and the dock with a fleet of state-of-the-art dive boats on the dockside. A short walk will take you to the Roatan Museum and the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences. You can sign up for educational programs and activities with the dolphins at Bailey’s Key.
At Anthony’s Key Resort, you’ll have a vacation with the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility during your getaway to Roatan.
Scuba Diving
We want everyone to experience the natural treasures beneath Roatan's Caribbean waters. You'll have endless opportunities to explore because we'll make it easy to take advantage of every opportunity during your stay at Anthony’s Key!
The AKR Dive Shop offers a full array of dive and snorkel gear for daily or weekly rentals. With an ample stock of regulators, gauges, BCs, wetsuits, and computers, you won't need to reserve equipment in advance or pay extra baggage fees to the airlines by bringing your own. They include tanks, weights, and weight belts in the Dive Packages. In addition, their dive operation offers convenient dockside equipment storage, fresh-water showers, and rinse tanks for your gear.
We hope you don’t need it… but just in case…Cornerstone Medical Services and Hyperbaric Chamber are conveniently located on the property. The chamber is a member of Divers Alert Network's (DAN) International Preferred Provider Network (IPPN) for added peace of mind.
Anthony's Key Resort is a PADI 5-Star Career Development Center and has ranked as one of the world's top dive resorts for over 50 years! From beginner diving courses to PADI Continuing Education Programs, they have a course to match your skill level.

Upachaya Eco-Lodge and Wellness Resort
nestled on the north side of Roatan in Man O’ War Harbor, offers a unique way to explore the island’s natural beauty through their mangrove snorkeling and kayaking tour.
Mangroves, vital to the health of coastal ecosystems, create a unique environment that’s a haven for diverse marine and bird life. Upachaya’s tour is a wonderful opportunity to explore this unique ecosystem up close.
Limited to a maximum of ten participants, the tour ensures a personal and non-intrusive experience.
Starting off with a brief safety and information session, you’ll then embark on a tranquil kayak journey through the calm, clear waters of the harbor.
The dense mangrove tunnels create a serene and magical setting for the tour. As you paddle through, you might spot a variety of bird species nesting in the trees and fish darting in the shallow waters beneath your kayak.
But you won’t just kayak – snorkeling is also a possibility, and one that’s quite unique!
The mangrove tree roots provide a shelter that is a welcome respite to many different types of small fish, crabs, and the like. Snorkeling here gives you a unique perspective of this under-appreciated ecosystem!
Eat like a foodie in the West End
Here are a few of our favorite spots to eat in the West End:
Loretta’s Island Kitchen for delicious coconut fish and lobster pasta, some of the best home-cooking on the island
Yahongreh? for delicious baleadas and breakfast sandwiches
Sandy Buns for obscenely large plates and a Texas-style menu (seriously, share anything you get — one plate is more than enough for two)
Stowaway for an eclectic tapas-style menu bringing inspiration from Spain and the Caribbean, with things like shrimp and mango ceviche and Spanish tortillas
Crisp for delicious fresh salads and poké bowls when you want something healthy, with lots of vegetarian options
Anthony’s Chicken for delicious jerk chicken and some of the best rice and beans on the island
Explore the boutiques of West End Roatan
There are a number of fun boutiques located in the West End of Roatán, selling everything from black coral jewelry to upscale clothing.
A particularly fun shop, the Rusty Fish, makes things only out of recycled items!
While visiting the West End, be sure to spend a little time popping into some of the small stores, where you can find all sorts of worthwhile souvenirs.
Roatan Chocolate Factory
Their mission: To create the finest quality chocolate whilst respecting the Indigenous communities and protecting the environment of Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve in La Moskitia jungle, the rainforest where our cacao comes from.
Central America is known for its delicious chocolate, and Roatán is no exception!
Located in West End, the Roatan Chocolate Factory offers free tours of its chocolate-making facilities, and teaches you the process from bean to bar.
If you prefer to just learn through tasting, you can sample their chocolates — they’re stunning, with flavors like coconut, chili, and passionfruit — or order up something at the café.
The café is also adorably designed, so it’s a nice place to cool off and while away a bit of time while you’re exploring the West End.
They offer all sorts of chocolate-ified drinks, like frozen chocolate shakes, as well as tasty chocolate cakes and treats.
Find out more about their conservation efforts HERE
Chocolate Making Class

The Carambola Gardens
Open 8 AM to 4:30 PM daily except Sundays, the Carambola Gardens are a great place to escape the sometimes-busy vibes of Roatán, especially on a cruise day.
Tucked away in a quiet nook of Sandy Bay not far from Anthony’s Key Resort, this 40-acre botanical garden is a beautiful place to lose yourself for a little bit.
There are some jungle trails you can explore, lined with exotic flora, most endemic to the island.
The trails will bring you to different zones, each showcasing a particular plant species or ecosystem, such as the rainforest area (with mahogany and cacao trees) and the orchid area (with beautiful brilliant flowers).
Depending on the season, you may even see its namesake tree in bloom — carambola is the word for starfruit, and there’s no shortage of starfruit trees bearing fruit.
The trails will also lead you to a little ridge, where you can see stunning views over the West End and Sandy Bay!
Prices are $15 USD for entrance, including a brief tour of the gardens.
Roatán Butterfly Garden
or a peaceful escape from cruise ship crowds and rowdy revelers, step into the Roatán Butterfly Garden, a hidden gem located in West End.
This serene and colorful oasis is home to a variety of butterfly species; the garden is a carefully designed habitat that supports a diverse population of butterflies.
From the striking blue morpho to the delicate longwings, the variety of butterflies here is truly striking!
Guided tours are available, allowing you to learn about the life cycle of butterflies, their importance in the ecosystem, and the threats they face in the wild.
But the garden isn’t home to just butterflies. As you explore, keep an eye out for the other residents. You may spot exotic birds, like the vividly colored macaws and parrots, and other creatures like iguanas.
Eat at La Sirena de Camp Bay
Having a meal at La Sirena de Camp Bay is an experience you’ll never forget: the owner, Walter, has created a little oasis at basically the very end of the island, so you feel like you’re at the edge of the world.
Hummingbirds dart all around you, drinking from a feeder, as you enjoy the view of the waves at this restaurant elevated above the crystalline waters.
Local kids nearby frolic in the waters, and the chalkboard menu reflects the catches of the day and local seafood that is so prized here.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try the lionfish ceviche and coconut-fried lionfish fingers they’re absolutely delicious — accompanied by some coconut water, it just might be one of the best meals you have all trip.
Roatan Rum Company
The Roatan Rum Company is located between West End and West Bay. This is one of the stops you must not miss when visiting Roatan. Upon arriving at the Rum Company, you will find yourself on high ground and you’ll be able to see both sides of Roatan island. The Roatan lighthouse (“El Faro”) is located just across the street from the Rum Company and both experiences can be paired together as one stop. Still more, there is a small market just next to el Faro where tourist frequently purchase souvenirs.
Once you arrive at the Roatan Rum Company, the rum experts will invite you to try free samples of their artisan rums and cakes which are perfect in warm weather! - Once surrounded by the exotic smells, you will be taken to the rear door of the store which takes you to one of the most spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. Visitors will be able to take great pictures and enjoy cold and tasty drinks at the Fusion bar.

What’s the difference between West End Vs. West Bay
West End consists of the West End Village and a more down to earth backpacker vibe.
There are tons of cheaper dining options and tours available at the West End. The reef starts 200 yards off the beach at the West End with no set snorkeling area.
West Bay is a mile long beach full of soft white sand and a more luxury hotel vibe. The reef on West Bay Beach starts 20 yards off the beach. West Bay has a specific snorkel area without boat traffic.
Are meals INCLUDED?
Breakfast is included daily.
There is an all-inclusive option available as well for an additional cost.
How can I be a responsible traveler in Roatan?
Roatan is one of the most difficult places in the Caribbean to be a responsible traveler with regard (especially) to wildlife conservation.
But, when visiting Roatan, it’s nearly impossible to avoid this completely.
So, here are some suggestions and insights to help you be a responsible traveler in Roatan:
There are LOTS of “sanctuaries” all over Roatan- but what this really is, is captured/purchased/trained/bred animals that are caged and put on display for tourist to take pictures with and have a “once in a lifetime” interaction or experience.
Even the dolphin experience at Anthony’s Key is not truly conservation. And so, we ask that you consider refraining from participating in the dolphin experiences.
(Hey- if you really want to swim responsibly with Dolphins, let’s go to the Red Sea! We have some fantastic, safe and wildlife friendly experiences that will blow your mind!)
What about food?
Do not buy conch, it’s 100% illegal to catch anywhere in Roatan, along with lobsters under 5.5 inch tails.
Be mindful of the lobster and shrimp season (if the season is open) as well.
(The Shrimp season begins on August 1st, and it goes on until the last day in February. The lobster season begins on July 1st, and it goes on until the last day in February.)
What are the water temps in Roatan in February/March?
February/March is a great month to scuba dive or snorkel in Roatan. With water reaching 80°F on average, spending time in the water is very pleasant.
A 3mm “shorty” wetsuit is recommended except for rainy days and multiple diving a 3mm "full wetsuit" would be better.
(the local dive shop will have wetsuits available; however, if you prefer to try them on in advance, Aquatic Adventures can assist you with a rental or purchase of a new wetsuit!)
Can I pay by Zelle?
No. The dive shop does not accept Zelle. You can make your payment by credit card which includes a 3% processing fee.
Can I pay by check?
Yes!
If you would like to avoid the 3% processing fee, you may pay by check. You can drop this off at the front desk of the dive shop or by mailing this directly to the dive shop.
