Meeting location: Storgata 77, 9008 Tromsø, Norway

Note: Please wear warm and waterproof clothes in case of rain or snow.

The first stop on your itinerary could be the iconic Arctic Cathedral, whose unique architecture mirrors the natural beauty of Norwegian icebergs. Next, visit the Polaria aquarium to marvel at the marine life that thrives in Arctic waters.

As afternoon descends, embark on a journey to the Tromsø University Museum, where you'll delve into the intriguing history and culture of Northern Norway.

For dinner, consider having a reindeer hotdog at Raketten Bar & Pølse (Storgata 94B, Tromsø, Norway, 9008)!

After this short walk you’ll arrive at the unique Polarmuseet and Skansen area. The tour continues with a private guided walk along Storgata (the pedestrian street), the Market Place, the Catholic and Protestant Cathedrals, Roald Amundsen monument and the Mack Brewery.

After this second city walk you will arrive at the Polstjerna; one of the last vessels hunting seals in the Arctic Ocean until the year 1981.

At around 12pm your tour finishes and you can choose whether to enter the Polaria aquarium which is right next to the vessel (entrance not included), or you can walk back to the center of town.

F.A.Q.

WHAT TIME IS THE CHECK IN TO THE HOTEL?

Check in at your hotel will not be until 3pm at the earliest.

  • If you arrive early, or your room is not yet ready for you to check in when you arrive, you may be able to leave your bags with the front desk and they will keep them securely held behind the desk while you go out and eat or explore the city until your room is ready.

DO I HAVE TO WEAR MY MASK THE WHOLE TIME?

At this time, No.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED?

At your hotels, yes. .

The serving times vary by hotel (they will tell you at check-in), but usually breakfast is served starting at 6:30am.

where will I go through customs?

You will go through customs in the first Schengen country that you enter. (This could be Oslo or Amsterdam depending on the flight schedule chosen.)

You won't need to go through customs at any other country while traveling since Norway, Sweden and Denmark are all part of the Schengen area.

When you return to the USA you'll go through customs in EWR (or wherever your first point of entry is into the USA).

Is there an airport shuttle in Tromsø?

Yes!
Included in your package are tickets on the AirportExpress Shuttle

The Airport express coach runs between airport and Tromso city center with stops at several hotels in the center, including your hotel at the Scandic Ishavshotel.

  • On weekdays, the first departure is at 5:00 am and the last one is at 8:00 pm

  • On Saturday, the first departure is at 5:00 am and the last one is at 5:15 pm

  • On Sunday, the first departure is at 8:00 am and the last one is at 7:45 pm

The journey takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

Is it better to use cash or card in Norway?

Debit and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and many places also accept payment by phone, like Google Pay and Apple Pay. But it is still a good idea to have a bit of cash on you for small purchases. Foreign currency is rarely accepted, so you need Norwegian currency to get by.

Should I exchange money before I travel to Norway, finland and sweden?

Having some Norwegian krone cash on hand can be helpful

Credit unions and banks will exchange your dollars into a foreign currency before and after your trip when you have a checking or savings account with them. (Just remember that when you return home, the banks will not accept any coins… only paper bills.)

If you need cash while you’re traveling, we recommend drawing some from an ATM once you've arrived in the foreign country.
Keep in mind, unless you’re using a prepaid multi-currency card like Revolut or a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, you could incur currency exchange fees.

What is the tipping etiquette in Scandinavia?

In Scandinavia, tipping etiquette is modest compared to many other regions.

Norway:
In Norway, service charge is typically included in the bill, thus tipping is not expected but appreciated for exceptional service – usually rounding up the bill suffices.

Sweden:
Similarly in Sweden, a service charge is often included in the bill, but a small tip of about 5-10% for excellent service is common.

Finland:
In Finland, tipping isn't customary but one can leave a few extra Euros for outstanding service.

Denmark:
In Denmark, a service charge is usually included in the bill, but it's common to leave a small tip, around 10%, at restaurants for great service.

Overall, while tipping isn't obligatory in these countries, it's appreciated as a token of satisfaction with the service provided.

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4% credit card processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.

There are two ways to pay by check:

  • Mail the check

  • Deposit directly at a local branch
