April 28:
Route 66

If you are continuing your trip with the POST-Tour Extension, you’ll say farewell to those going home and remain on the tour bus as it heads back out on the road on historic Route 66!

Route 66 is called “The Mother Road” and unites the west coast with the east coast.

Driving along this route can feel like going down memory lane in the 1950-somethings.
Picturesque gas stations, curio shops, attractions, twisty mountain passes, and even a couple vineyards dot the landscape.

The town of Kingman is known as "The Heart of Historic Route 66" and has plenty of classic US 66 attractions.

Don't miss its score of vintage motels such as the famous "El Trovatore" or the "Hill Top", its vintage cafés and diners.

The historic road's role in American history is celebrated at the Route 66 Museum, set inside the Powerhouse Visitors Center.

April 29:
Grand Canyon

-Mather Point
-Bright Angel Point
-Seligman, AZ

This morning you’ll check out of your hotel and drive to see the main attraction of this tour- the Grand Canyon!

For many visitors coming to the South Rim, Mather Point offers the first glimpse of a world wonder.

A short walk from the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, Mather Point offers an expansive view of the canyon. On a clear day you can see 30+ miles (48 km) to the east and 60+ miles (96 km) to the west. Looking down into the canyon you can see a few small samples of the Colorado River, Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon, and numerous trails crisscrossing the landscape.

Just a little ways down the road is Bright Angel Point.
Over 1,000 feet (300 meters) higher than the South Rim of Grand Canyon, the point offers an excellent view of Bright Angel Canyon to the east, Transept Canyon to the west, and the intensely carved erosional formations within the canyon that are characteristic of the North Rim.

On quiet days, you can hear Roaring Springs, car below within Bright Angel Canyon, gushing out of a cliff face 3,100 feet (950 meters) below the rim. A sharp eye can spot the power lines that run down to the spring, which power pumps that push fresh water back up to the North Rim.

Your last site of the day is a break in Seligman, AZ.
Some say that Seligman is the Birthplace of Route 66. It is also where Route 66 was reborn in Arizona and rescued from oblivion.

After stretching your legs, getting a snack and/or some Route 66 souvenirs, you’ll continue your travels to the hotel in Kingman, AZ for the night.

7:30am Depart for Grand Canyon South Rim

8:45am Arrive at Mather Point (Time to explore the south rim)

11:00am Bright Angel Point

F.A.Q.

What time should I book my arrival flight into Las Vegas on April 21?

We recommend you arrive around 2pm into Las Vegas to take our private tour bus to the hotel.

The hotel check in is at 3pm.
The Welcome dinner is at 5pm.
This will give you enough time to check into the hotel and get ready for dinner.

If you arrive at the hotel earlier than 3pm, you will have to have the hotel hold your luggage while you either enjoy the hotel/casino or start exploring the Las Vegas Strip!

*If you are arriving April 19th for the PRE-Tour Add On package, there are no time concerns other than the 3pm check in time at the hotel. Transportation will to the hotel will be at your own expense.

*If you arrive much earlier than 2pm or past 3pm on April 21, you will be responsible for taking a taxi/Lyft/Uber or other shuttle (at your own expense) to the hotel.

What time should I book my departure flight home on April 28?

If you are departing on April 28th after the tour, please book your return flight AFTER 12:00pm.

It takes roughly 2-3 hours to drive from St. George to the Las Vegas airport and the bus will not be arriving to the airport until about 11am.
Since everyone is riding together, there is no way to get you to the airport any earlier, so please plan accordingly.

*If you are staying for the POST-Tour Extension package, we will continue the tour after dropping everyone off at the airport and likely changing vehicles to a smaller Sprinter-style van.
We will advise you on proper departure flight times for April 30th when the itinerary has been solidified.

I am joining the POST-Tour Extension. What time should I book my departure flight home on April 30?

If you are departing on April 30th after the POST-Tour Extension, please book your return flight AFTER 2:30pm.

Who is our Tour Guide and how do I get in touch with them?

Sascha Ghods
Cell: 561/635-8837

Sascha’s cell phone is only available from April 19-30.
For questions prior to that date, or afterwards, please reach out to your travel agent, Christian Tamte 614/556-1945

Do I have to wear my mask the whole time?

Yes.

To keep everyone as safe as possible, we require the wearing of masks in all public areas and while on the bus.

When you are on your own, please follow all local laws-ask your guide if you are unsure about each city's current COVID19 Mask policy.

Is breakfast included?

Yes!

The serving times vary by hotel (they will tell you at check-in), but usually breakfast is served starting at 6:30am.

How dressy is too dressy?

While the Welcome and Farewell dinners are at nice restaurants... attire is a bit more relaxed out west.

You can still dress up if you like!
But you will fit in just as well if you want to do more of a business casual attire instead.

As for your dinner on April 23 at the outdoor BBQ with members from the Navajo Tribe- you will be eating outdoors, so please bring a sweater/jacket to keep warm after the sun goes down!

Do I need binoculars?

NEED? No.

Want?? Probably.

The Guide will have a pair of binoculars onboard the bus for wildlife viewing. Keep in mind that there are 38 guests on this trip- so if you have a pair of binoculars, bring them with you!

What should I bring on the bus each day?

Snacks and a water bottle.
Since you’ll be on the bus all day (most days), we encourage you to bring some snacks and a water bottle with you to keep up your energy!

Jacket/scarf/gloves/hat
The weather changes frequently out west during this season!
Watch the weather forecast for the day- links to the forecast are listed above for each location you’ll be visiting!

Camera
You know we all love seeing your photos of the adventures you have together!

Cash
You’ll be purchasing lunch each day, and possibly purchasing souvenirs along the way.

Binoculars
If you’ve got ‘em- bring ‘em!
The guide will have one pair of binoculars onboard the bus, but it may not (probably won’t) be enjoyable to take turns using them to see the wildlife.

Is there a bathroom on the bus?

Yes.

Will there be electric outlets on the bus?

Usually there are, yes. …. but we cannot guarantee it.

We’ve tried to get a more solid answer for this question, but the bus won’t be officially assigned until just before the start of the tour.
It’s rare not to have electric outlets somewhere on a 55 passenger touring bus; however, it has happened before.

If having a power source is important to you, we recommend bringing a portable power bank with you to charge your devices on the road.

How much should I tip the guide and driver?

They worked hard for you all week- please take care of them appropriately.

Please consider a tip of (at least):
$56/pp for the driver

$70/pp for the guide
(so- that’s a minimum of $126 per person) -(and yes, cash is best)

You can tip at any point in the tour; however, it is customary to tip on the last tour day (before you get off the bus at the hotel in Salt Lake City)

It is also customary to tip any other guides that may lead part of your itinerary- $5-8/pp is a nice gesture.

Can I fly my drone in the National Parks?

No.

It is illegal to fly your drone anywhere in a National Park.
There are some pretty strict laws around this, with some heavy consequences for ignoring those laws.
Please consult the appropriate resources to learn more about this question.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 3%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

You can make checks payable to “Zone Travel”

Please mail your checks (allowing 3-5 business days for delivery - PRIOR to deadline) to:
Zone Travel
PO Box 12052
Columbus, OH 43212

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.
