September 11:
Athens

Athens, the city with the most glorious history in the world, a city worshipped by gods and people. It is the city where democracy was born and most of the wise men of ancient times. The most important civilization of ancient world flourished in Athens and relives through some of the world's most formidable edifices. Not only is this city home to the Acropolis and some of the most important architectural structures and archaeological finds in the Western world. It is also a very modern city, an urban amalgam of extraordinary art, culture, cuisine and shopping.

We recommend visiting Acropolis, Odeon of Herodes Atticus or the Temple of Zeus.

We also recommend visiting local restaurants or bars to taste some authentic greek food or to drink their local drink “Ouzo”. Ouzo is an anise-flavored liquor produced from grape must (the remnants of wine-making). No other beverage is as uniquely Greek or as closely linked to a culture as ouzo is to Greece

September
13: Mykonos

This island looks as if it's straight off tourism posters-beautiful water, whitewashed houses, sandy beaches, winding streets, windmills, tiny chapels, colourful domed churches and radiant flowers. But don't expect to find isolation: Mykonos swarms with tourists in the warmer months. Attractions include great restaurants, lively tavernas, very good shopping (especially for casual clothing), waterskiing & surfing. The best beaches are Paradise, Agrari and Elia

We recommend visiting the Paraportiani Church, Mykonos town or Delos Island.

Delos island has crystal clear waters and is the mythological birthplace of Apollo! Head over to the House of Cleopatra, see the Agora of the Italians and explore the Lions’ Terrace.

September 17-18: Santorini

Whitewashed villages clinging to the sides of the sea cliffs have made the volcanic island of Santorini one of the most widely photographed places in the world. The island's charm and subtle mystery have even made it a target of speculation as the location of the lost city of Atlantis.

There are more churches than houses on the island, although most of these are very small and private, Wine is a major industry in Santorini. The hot, dry climate is perfect for growing grapes, The vines are grown in coils on the ground, rather than on a trellis like you typically see in many other vineyards around the world. Santorini also is the home to multiple different colored beaches, including a white, red and black sand beach.

We recommend wine tasting, visiting the colored sand beaches and watching the beautiful sunsets.

Tipping in Greece

Tipping in Greece for all service workers in the hospitality industry, including drivers and guides is common practice.

The amount of the tip is left at your discretion and is based on the quality of service you receive.
Please note that drivers and guides rely on tips to supplement their income, therefore if you are happy with their service, a tip is always welcomed and greatly appreciated. In addition, it is always best to tip the guide and driver separately and that tips are preferred in cash in local currency.

Tipping Guidelines:

  • For private drivers, 15€+ for a transfer and 30€+ for a tour /per day

  • For private guides, 50€+ per tour /per day

  • Porter /bellboy minimum €1+ per bag.

  • Restaurants - In restaurants tipping is expected for good service. You can tip between a minimum 5% and 10% or you

    can round up the bill.

Do the hotels offer laundry service or provide machines to do laundry?

  • Athens-Achilleas Hotel: If you would like to have some laundry done, you will be given a laundry bag from the hotel, put your clothing in the bag & give this bag to the housekeeper in the morning so the laundry is done by the afternoon.

    • The rate per laundry bag is 15 euros, that can be paid to the hotel, directly,

  • Mykonos-Harmony Hotel: The hotel has this service- the rate is per clothing item & varies depending on each clothing item.

    • The laundry can take up to 48 hours to be cleaned/returned.

  • Santorini-Mill House Elegant Suites: The hotel doesn’t have this service. If you would like to have some laundry done, you will be given a laundry bag from the hotel, put your clothing in the bag & the reception of the hotel will recommend a close laundry service store that you can take your clothes to (there are multiple in Mykonos town).

    • You will be responsible for transportation to the laundromat, soap and the cost to use the washer/dryers.

      • Average price for washers is about 3-5 euros per machine

      • Average price for dryers is about 2-3 euros per minute

Can I pay by Zelle?

Yes!

We started taking Zelle payments last month and we found this to be a fast and FREE way to pay!
For those who don’t know what Zelle is… it is very much like a wire transfer (but it is not a wire transfer).

Everyone’s bank is different, though, so you may want to call/go in to your local bank and ask to have the maximum amount available to transfer every day.

Example: Some banks only allow $500/day transfer. Other banks will allow $1200/day.

Always be careful when making payments through Zelle to people that you do not know. There is no protection guarantee provided and you cannot reverse the fee.

The Pros for using Zelle:

  • It is FREE (no processing fees)!

  • It is instantaneous (funds will go directly to Zone Travel- so this is the absolute fastest way to make a payment)

The Cons for using Zelle:

  • Every bank is different when it comes to maximum amount available to be transferred every day. So, this may mean that you need to make multiple payments to Zone Travel, multiple days in a row.

  • It does require an app download onto your phone, and you need to set up your account with your bank information.

Can I pay by check?

Yes!

If you would like to avoid the 4%processing fees, you may pay by check.
It is very important that you pay in advance of the deadlines and allow ample time for delivery.

You can make checks payable to “Zone Travel”

Please mail your checks (allowing 3-5 business days for delivery - PRIOR to deadline) to:
Zone Travel
PO Box 12052
Columbus, OH 43212

Payments received after the deadline could result in cancelation of your reservation or increased fees.
